Description
There is a 15’ x 75’ river stone fountain with ten waterspouts for musical accompaniment as you collect vegetables, fruits, nuts, berries and flowers. The fountain is solar powered and comes on as the sun rises and turn off as the sun sets. You might enjoy a paddle in your own rowboat as the lake is typically just a few feet from the property line.
The water table is only a couple of meters from the land surface so pumping water from the legal well is efficient and inexpensive. The water rights are sufficient for a much larger property. Many of the 200 food-producing trees have been in the ground for ten years so don’t require watering. The current vegetable garden is on a drip system and the property is dotted with water taps.
There are several buildings on the property in configurations inviting multiple-uses and all with abundant natural light. If the sun is shining, you never need to turn on an electric light. And the night sky will take your breath away. It is currently laid out with four bedrooms and 3.5 baths. The half bath is for employees.
The property was at first a factory for a line of wood, iron and upholstered furniture. With so much expensive equipment in the buildings, the owner decided it would be a good idea to build a ten-foot high wall and iron fence around the full perimeter. Two sides face federal property and look out onto the lake so those sides have iron fencing. The other sides have cinder block walls much of which is covered with creeping fig. The factory required additional electricity so that is all in place if someone wants a small shop or opens another business perhaps processing the food. There are two outbuildings which work as barns and storage for the garden equipment. The main gate on the high side of the property is electric and there are two additional gates on the lower lake side.
The master bedroom area is about a thousand square feet. The library is about 300 square feet and the main kitchen is about 400 sq’. Additionally there is a separate two-bedroom house and a two room apartment. Living space is almost 12,000 square feet. There are glass and steel enclosed porches with many windows, all with screens. Each building is keyed separately. The main building with the master bedroom, library, kitchen and perhaps another four thousand sq’ is heated with a forced air furnace. The thermostat is in the master bedroom. There are circulating vents in the roof of the main room and they are covered each winter to maintain a pleasant temperature and uncovered each summer.
You will get a sense of the real Mexico twice a day as your neighbors guide their horses, cows, burros, sheep, goats and dogs down the road to drink from the lake and graze on federal land. The whole effect is very real and very charming as are the locals. The locals working on the property live only three short blocks away and are related to most of the community. There are American neighbors as well. Once you snuggle into this sweet three and three quarter acres you may find yourself hesitant to leave even to go to San Miguel, though it is only fifteen minutes to the principal jardin.
